This Columbia Pictures film is based on the television series I Spy starring Robert Culp and Bill Cosby in the 1960s, but turned out to be quite different. This thrill action and adventure packed comedy has been nominated for three Razzie awards in 2003 for Worst Remake, Worst Actor for Eddie Murphy and Worst Screen Couple for both stars, and though the film won neither it shows that the film was greatly appreciated. Also featuring star actress Famke Janssen as Rachel Wright, who is also a special agent.
This film starts with special agent Alex, who might I remind you is looking upon as a high being assigned to retrieve a stolen plane that is invisible to the eye and can't be tracked from radar either called the Switch Blade stolen by Arnold Gundars (Malcolm McDowell). When Alex finds out that his rival agent Carlos (Gary Cole) is also assigned on the cast he gets determined to complete his mission successfully. The Bureau of National Security finds that Gundars is sponsoring Kelly in his next match and using the match to sell the invisible plane. So the president who is well acquainted with Robinson assigns him as civilian cover to help Alex on his mission, but the two of them aren't very fund of one another in the beginning. They soon find that agent Rachel Wright is a trader who is working with Gundars and attempting to kill them both. The relationship between Robinson and Scott grows as the mission goes on and surprisingly they complete the mission successfully, but soon after find that the mission was credited to Carlos by the president making Robinson uninterested in a mission debrief.
