I Want You is a romantic drama that tells the story of a man named Martin (Alessandro Nivola) who returns to his hometown of Liverpool, England after serving time in prison for a crime he committed as a teenager. Martin's only goal is to put his troubled past behind him and begin a new life, but he quickly finds that this is easier said than done.

Martin becomes entranced with Helen (Rachel Weisz), a married woman who he has been in love with since they were teenagers. Helen is married to her childhood sweetheart, the extremely possessive and abusive town thug, Dodge (Luka Petrusic) and they have a young daughter together. Helen's attraction to Martin is hard to resist and Martin sees this as an opportunity to finally win her over.

As the two begin to reconnect and explore their feelings, it becomes apparent that both of them are hiding secrets from each other. Martin's past is catching up with him, and he is being targeted by a former associate who wants him to join his criminal enterprise. Helen is conflicted about her feelings for Martin and the oppressive nature of her relationship with Dodge, who is becoming more and more dangerous as he begins to suspect something is going on between his wife and Martin.

The chemistry between Nivola and Weisz is electric, and the audience is slowly drawn into the complex, passionate and dangerous relationship between the two. The film is beautifully shot, with director Michael Winterbottom making great use of the bleak, atmospheric Northern England landscapes to create a sense of the foreboding threat that shadows the characters throughout the film.

The movie is mainly driven by the performances of the three main actors, especially Rachel Weisz, who delivers a dazzling portrayal of a woman torn between her desires and her responsibilities. Nivola also gives a standout performance as Martin, whose brooding intensity makes him an enigmatic and interesting character to watch. Luka Petrusic is also fantastic as Dodge, the violent and controlling antagonist of the movie.

Overall, I Want You is a tense and engaging drama that explores themes of love, redemption, and regret. It's a well-crafted film that explores complex human emotions in a way that will leave a lasting impression on the viewer. The score by David Gray adds to the film's haunting atmosphere, and Winterbottom's direction draws out the best in the script to create a suspenseful and romantic story that will stay with the viewer long after the credits roll.
