Inbred is a British horror-comedy movie that was released in 2011. The movie follows four young offenders who are sent on a community service trip to the rural village of Mortlake, which is filled with eccentric locals who seem to have a deep-rooted fear of outsiders. The four teenagers and their two probation officers soon find themselves in the middle of a nightmare when they come across a group of the village's inbred locals who are hell-bent on killing them.

The group of young offenders includes the cocky and troublesome Dwight (Chris Waller), the tough and resourceful Tim (James Burrows), the shy and innocent Sam (Nadine Mulkerrin), and the tough girl Cheryl (Terry Haywood). Although they initially struggle to get along, they soon bond over their shared fear and trauma.

As they explore the village, they encounter a series of bizarre and unsettling events. From the creepy locals who stare at them with suspicion to the strange symbols carved into the trees, Mortlake seems to be hiding some dark secrets. The group soon discovers that the locals are not only inbred but also engage in some pretty twisted traditions, including gladiator-style fights to the death with animals.

The movie is directed by Alex Chandon and written by Paul Shrimpton and Alex Chandon. It stars Jo Hartley as Jean, one of the probation officers who struggles to keep the group under control, James Doherty as Jeff, the other probation officer who is more laid-back, and Seamus O'Neill as Podge, the leader of the inbred villagers who gives an unforgettable performance.

Inbred is a movie that subverts expectations, presenting itself as a typical horror movie while also injecting the proceedings with a ton of dark humor. The humor is a bit of a double-edged sword, though. Sometimes it works amazingly well, such as when you first encounter the inbred locals and they turn out to be wearing animal masks. Other times, the humor can feel forced and misplaced, such as when two characters engage in a lengthy argument about how to pronounce Worcestershire sauce.

The movie never shies away from being graphically violent either. There’s a lot of gore on display, and some of the scenes are genuinely disturbing. However, the violence never feels gratuitous or cheap. It's always in service to the story, and it helps to ratchet up the tension.

The standout performance comes from Seamus O'Neill as Podge. He brings a level of twisted glee to the role that is both repulsive and engaging. You can't take your eyes off him, even when he's engaging in some pretty disgusting behavior. Jo Hartley is also great as Jean, and her character provides a strong emotional anchor for the movie.

Inbred is not a movie for everyone. Some people might find it too gory, too dark, or too disturbing. However, for those who appreciate horror-comedy that pushes boundaries and takes risks, Inbred is a must-watch. It's a low-budget movie that punches way above its weight, delivering tons of shocks, scares, and laughs.

Inbred is a 2012 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.3.
