A six-year-old girl named Iris awakens nearly naked in a coffin surrounded by girls dressed in white. This is her introduction to the nameless school she will live at for the next 6 years. Located deep in the woods this school has a maximum of 30 girls a year from age six through age twelve. The children raise themselves and each other.

There are only a few adults and but two teachers - one to teach dance and one to teach natural science. There are only three rules: no contact with the outer world, no leaving the grounds, and obedience is required. In this bleak setting Iris, Alice (a 4th year student), and Bianca (a 6th year student) must find their way. Iris must learn to survive here, Alice must find a way to succeed and thus escape, and Bianca must find the courage to face an unknown future.
