Jesse Stone: Night Passage is a 2006 made-for-TV movie directed by Robert Harmon and starring Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone. The film, written by Tom Epperson and based on the novel of the same name by Robert B. Parker, is the second installment in the Jesse Stone film series. The movie tells the story of Jesse Stone, a former Los Angeles Police Department detective who becomes the police chief of the small town of Paradise, Massachusetts, after a series of personal problems led to his dismissal from the LAPD.

The movie begins with Jesse Stone arriving in Paradise, Massachusetts, to start a new life as the town's police chief. He quickly discovers that the town has its share of problems, including a recent break-in at the local bank and a local bar that's a hotbed of illegal activity. Jesse quickly makes friends with some of the locals, including Hasty Hathaway (Saul Rubinek), a wealthy businessman who has a soft spot for the police chief.

As Jesse begins investigating the break-in at the bank, he uncovers a web of corruption that leads all the way to the top of the town's political hierarchy. The corrupt officials are determined to stop Jesse from uncovering the truth, going so far as to sabotage his investigation and even threaten his life. Jesse, however, is a tough cop who won't be intimidated, and he continues to pursue the case despite the danger.

As the investigation heats up, Jesse finds himself falling for a local woman named Abby Taylor (Viola Davis), who works at the bank that was robbed. Abby has her own secrets, and she's reluctant to get involved with Jesse, but the two are drawn to each other nonetheless. Jesse's personal life is complicated by the fact that his ex-wife, Jen (Stephanie March), is still trying to win him back, even though he's moved on with his life.

The movie is a classic thriller, with plenty of action, suspense, and danger. It's also a character-driven drama, however, with a complex protagonist who is struggling to come to terms with his past while trying to build a new life for himself. Tom Selleck is excellent in the role of Jesse Stone, bringing depth and nuance to the character. He's a tough cop who's seen too much of the dark side of life, but he's also a man with a heart and a conscience, who wants to do the right thing.

Saul Rubinek is also excellent as Hasty Hathaway, giving a nuanced performance that reveals the businessman's hidden depths. Viola Davis is superb as Abby Taylor, conveying both vulnerability and strength. The supporting cast, including Stephanie March as Jen, and Kohl Sudduth as Jesse's loyal deputy, Suitcase Simpson, are also first-rate.

The movie is beautifully shot, with stunning cinematography that captures the beauty of the Massachusetts coast. The score, by Jeff Beal, is also excellent, providing a moody, atmospheric backdrop to the film's tense action sequences.

Overall, Jesse Stone: Night Passage is a gripping thriller that showcases Tom Selleck's talents as an actor. The movie is engrossing from start to finish, with a complex plot that keeps the viewer guessing until the very end. It's also a character-driven drama, with a flawed but compelling protagonist who is easy to root for. Fans of suspenseful thrillers will not want to miss this movie.

Jesse Stone: Night Passage is a 2006 tv movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 29 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.2.
