Joshua is a 2002 thriller movie directed by Jon Purdy and written by Brad Mirman. It stars Tony Goldwyn, F. Murray Abraham, and Kurt Fuller in leading roles. The story revolves around Joshua Lazarus, a psychic prodigy who possesses the supernatural ability to read people's thoughts and control their actions through telekinesis. The movie opens with a young Joshua (Colin Fox) being tested by a group of doctors in a secret government facility. His extraordinary power becomes evident when he easily manipulates their minds and escapes the facility as a young boy.

Years later, Joshua (Tony Goldwyn) is a successful psychiatrist living a seemingly normal life in New York. However, after a wealthy patient, Melissa (Caroline Goodall), commits suicide following his treatment, he begins to experience strange and terrifying visions. He discovers that Melissa's death was a setup, and someone is trying to frame him for it.

As Joshua begins to investigate and unravel the conspiracy, he meets a group of former government officials, including Ari Ben-David (F. Murray Abraham) and Milton (Kurt Fuller), who explain that they have been monitoring him since he escaped the facility as a child. They reveal that Joshua's powers are the result of a top-secret government project that aimed to create a psychic weapon for use in the Cold War.

Despite their long-term monitoring of him, they never intended to involve Joshua in any of their plans until he became a threat. They also reveal that Melissa was one of their own, and they killed her when she turned against them.

Joshua’s new knowledge allows him to unlock his past, including the reason for his mother’s disappearance, which he had long believed to be a result of his telekinetic activities. Joshua decides to take his powers and use them to stop the conspirators and their sinister plans.

The rest of the movie is an action-packed journey as Joshua uses his abilities to fight his way through the conspiracy and the corrupt officials to get to the truth.

Tony Goldwyn delivers a brilliant performance as Joshua, displaying his inner turmoil and otherworldly powers as a result of his past. His journey from a disturbed man to a powerful hero is believable and captivating. F. Murray Abraham as Ari Ben-David also shines in his portrayal of a conflicted former government operative, showcasing both his cruel and sympathetic sides.

Kurt Fuller, as Milton, portrays his character’s smugness and contempt towards Joshua from the beginning, making his eventual downfall all the more satisfying for audiences.

The movie also features remarkable special effects that add to the suspense of the story. The visual effects depicting the use of Joshua’s abilities, such as levitation and mind control, are impressive, making them seem realistic and believable.

Overall, Joshua is an entertaining thriller that combines elements of science fiction and action, with an underlying message about government control and the consequences of human experimentation. With well-written characters and a gripping storyline, this movie is worth a watch for fans of drama, sci-fi, and action films.

Joshua is a 2002 drama. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.6 and a MetaScore of 38.
