In 2008, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation teamed up to release an animated feature titled "Justice League: The New Frontier," which was directed by Dave Bullock and written by Stan Berkowitz. The film boasts an impressive cast with an array of famous actors such as David Boreanaz, Miguel Ferrer, Neil Patrick Harris, and John Heard.

Set in the 1950s, the movie is an adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel "DC: The New Frontier" by writer and artist Darwyn Cooke. It’s a story about the formation of the Justice League, a team of superheroes who come together to save the world from unprecedented threats.

The film opens with the Korean War in full swing, and we see a group of costumed heroes battling Communists in the freezing conditions of Korea. The opening sequence sets the tone for the entire film, which pays tribute to the Silver Age of Comics.

As the Korean War comes to an end, the world is changing. A new era is dawning, and the superheroes of the past are starting to feel out of place. The United States government turns against superheroes, fearing their growing power and lack of accountability. In response to this, Batman (David Boreanaz) and other heroes decide to retreat into the shadows and work alone, rather than come under the jurisdiction of the government.

Meanwhile, Hal Jordan (Neil Patrick Harris), a test pilot who is chosen to become the Green Lantern, is struggling to come to terms with his newfound powers. He's also unsure of whether he wants to join the ranks of the superheroes he looks up to or try to make a name for himself in the world of aviation.

At the same time, Wonder Woman (Lucy Lawless) appears in America as a representative of the Amazonian people. Through her eyes, we see an alternate vision of the world where she and her fellow Amazons have maintained a peaceful and egalitarian society while the rest of the world has been consumed by war, violence, and injustice.

Amid the political turmoil and threat of an alien invasion, it becomes evident that the world needs heroes to unite and save humanity. The threat of a mysterious entity known as The Centre, which feeds on fear and terror, unites the heroes in a race against time to prevent its catastrophic impact.

As the Justice League comes together, they find they have more in common than they initially thought. They may have diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and powers, but they all share the same goal of protecting humanity. Together they stake their claim as the world’s protectors, united by their differences.

The animation is a fantastic homage to the Silver Age of Comics, with a distinct retro style that gives it a truly unique and timeless feel. The voice acting is excellent, with actors taking on iconic roles that blend well with the feature's overall tone. The short runtime of the movie does not restrict it from being a memorable experience, rather it makes it a well-told story without any unnecessary scenes.

Overall, "Justice League: The New Frontier" is a must-watch for DC Comics fans as it offers a fresh take on the origin story and brings the Silver Age of comics to life. The movie is a loving tribute to the heroes of old in every way, using its style of presentation and story to remain relevant even today. It holds a special place in the hearts of comic book fans, and it's an excellent piece of animation that delivers on every level.
