Keys to Freedom is a powerful and thought-provoking drama from 1988 starring Academy Award-nominated actress Jane Seymour, along with the legendary Omar Sharif and the accomplished Denholm Elliott. Directed by Steve Feke, the film takes place in the early years of World War II in Germany, and tells the story of a group of people whose lives intersect in dramatic and unexpected ways.

The film begins with Seymour's character, Maria, a Jewish woman living in Germany at the start of the war. We see her struggling to survive amidst the rising tide of Nazi oppression, as she and her family are forced to flee their home and seek refuge in other parts of the country. Along the way, Maria meets a number of other characters, all of whom are fighting their own battles in this dangerous and uncertain time.

One of these characters is Sharif's character, Kaspar, a wealthy and powerful man who is part of the Nazi elite. Despite his status and power, however, Kaspar is not immune to the injustices and cruelty of the regime he serves. As he becomes more and more disillusioned with the Nazi cause, he begins to question his own role in the war and the choices he has made.

Meanwhile, Elliott's character, Heinrich, is a German doctor who is struggling to remain true to his own conscience in the face of the Nazi regime's increasing brutality. As he watches his own patients and colleagues being taken away to concentration camps, Heinrich must decide whether to do what he can to help those who are suffering, or to continue to toe the party line and maintain his position of privilege.

As the war continues to escalate and tensions mount, these three characters find themselves drawn together in unexpected ways, as they each search for a way to live with themselves and their choices in a world gone mad. Along the way, they must confront their own fears and prejudices, as well as the pervasive and insidious influence of propaganda and hate.

Overall, Keys to Freedom is a gripping and powerful film, filled with complex and nuanced characters who are struggling to find their way in a world that seems to have lost its moral compass. Seymour, Sharif, and Elliott all deliver powerful and moving performances, bringing to life a story that is as timely and relevant today as it was almost 40 years ago. Whether you are a fan of historical dramas or just looking for a film that explores important themes of human nature and resilience, Keys to Freedom is a must-see classic that leaves a lasting impression.
