He leaves a suicide note behind, making it seem like he was unable to cope with his failures and problems. Ravi hopes that his death will be the key to unlocking an insurance policy that will provide enough money to save his son's life. Sarita and Raja believe that Ravi has indeed died.

Things take a turn for the worse when Ravi's plan doesn't work out as expected. Sarita is devastated by the loss of her husband, and Raja begins to show his true colors. He becomes possessive and controlling towards Sarita, even going so far as to physically abuse her. Sarita has nowhere to turn and feels trapped in her situation.
