King of the Lost World is an adventure/sci-fi movie from 2005 that has a very clear inspiration from the classic story of King Kong but with its own twist. The movie stars Bruce Boxleitner as Jonathan Brock, a wealthy and skillful pilot who gets hired to transport a team of explorers to a remote island in the Pacific Ocean where a strange phenomenon has been detected. The group is formed by Professor Challenger (Jeff Denton), a brilliant scientist; his assistant, Sarah (Judit Fekete); a photojournalist, Greg (Rhett Giles); and a cameraman, Nick (Christopher Karl Johnson).

The movie starts with a prologue that sets up the mystery of the island, as a cargo ship is lost at sea and a rescue team that is sent to find it never returns. The team discovers that everything electronic stops working near the island, and they are attacked by a giant pterodactyl. The group manages to parachute to the island, but they quickly realize that they are not alone. They encounter a tribe of primitive people who are being hunted by a group of ruthless mercenaries who have also found their way to the island.

The explorers soon realize that the island is inhabited by prehistoric creatures, such as giant insects, spiders, and reptiles, and they have to fight for their survival as they try to uncover the secrets of the island. They discover that the island is actually a floating landmass that is held in the sky by a magnetic field, and that the source of the field is a giant crystal that is guarded by a colossal gorilla. This is where the inspiration from King Kong becomes apparent, as the monster is the titular King of the Lost World.

The explorers soon find themselves caught up in a battle between the gorilla and the mercenaries who want to exploit the crystal for their own purposes. The gorilla is depicted as a sympathetic creature who is fiercely protective of the crystal, and the explorers develop a bond with it as they try to convince it to let them take the crystal and leave the island. However, the mercenaries are not so easily swayed, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to get their hands on the crystal.

The movie is full of action set pieces, as the explorers have to fight off a variety of prehistoric monsters and deal with the threat of the mercenaries. There are also moments of humor and romance, such as when Nick develops a crush on Sarah and tries to impress her by filming his exploits on the island. The movie's special effects are a mixed bag, with some impressive creature designs and practical effects, but also some shoddy CGI that hasn't aged well.

Overall, King of the Lost World is an entertaining B-movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a fun homage to the classic monster movies of the past, with a likable cast and a decent amount of thrills. If you're a fan of pulp adventure stories or just want to see some big monsters smashing things, this movie is definitely worth checking out.

King of the Lost World is a 2005 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 2.4.
