In the dark and dystopian future of Johannesburg, South Africa, a young girl named Sawa (India Eisley) is a deadly assassin working for a corrupt police detective named Karl Aker (Samuel L. Jackson). Sawa's parents were murdered when she was a child, and Aker took her under his wing and trained her to be a skilled killer. Along with her partner Oburi (Jaco Muller), Sawa takes out criminals and other targets for Aker, using her incredible fighting and marksmanship skills.

But when Oburi is killed by a rival gang, Sawa is traumatized and sets out on a mission of revenge. Along the way, she uncovers a network of corruption and organized crime that goes all the way to the top of the city's power structure. She finds unexpected allies in a young hacker named Numi (Annabel Linder) and a former rival assassin named Kanie (Callan McAuliffe).

As Sawa hunts down those responsible for Oburi's death, she also starts to question the morality of her actions and the motivations of those around her. She discovers that Aker may have his own sinister agenda, and that she may have been manipulated her entire life.

Kite, directed by Ralph Ziman, is a remake of the 1998 Japanese anime of the same name, but it takes a much darker and more realistic approach to the story. The movie is a violent and gritty portrayal of a future where the line between law and crime is blurred, and where the only way to survive is to be ruthless.

India Eisley gives a compelling performance as Sawa, effectively conveying her character's emotional trauma and physical prowess. Samuel L. Jackson is also in top form as the corrupt Aker, bringing his trademark intensity and charisma to the role.

The action sequences in Kite are impressively choreographed and well-executed, featuring a mix of hand-to-hand combat and gunplay. The movie doesn't shy away from the brutality of Sawa's actions, and there are some scenes that may be too intense for some viewers.

One of the highlights of Kite is the stunning visual style, which combines the neon-lit, cyberpunk aesthetic of Blade Runner with the gritty, realistic look of a crime drama. The cinematography and production design are top-notch, creating a vivid and immersive world for the characters to inhabit.

However, Kite does have some flaws. The plot can be convoluted and confusing at times, and some of the supporting characters are underdeveloped. The movie also relies heavily on cliches and tropes from the action and crime genres, and doesn't bring anything new to the table.

Overall, Kite is a solid action thriller that will satisfy fans of the genre. It may not be the most original or groundbreaking movie, but it delivers on its promises of violence, suspense, and stylish visuals. If you're in the mood for a dark and gritty tale of revenge and redemption, Kite is definitely worth checking out.

Kite is a 2014 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.4 and a MetaScore of 19.
