Lady Is the Boss is an action-packed martial arts film directed by Lau Kar Leung and released in 1983. The movie follows the story of Fong Yau (Kara Hui), a young woman who inherits her father’s martial arts school after his death. However, the students of the school refuse to accept a woman as their new boss and challenge her to fight for their loyalty.

Fong Yau is a skilled martial artist, but she has a lot to prove to her new pupils. She decides to enlist the help of a wandering beggar named So Chan (Lau Kar Leung) who has the reputation of being one of the greatest fighters around. So Chan is reluctant to help her at first but eventually agrees after getting to know her and her determination to prove everyone wrong.

As Fong Yau begins to train and improve her skills, she finds herself caught up in a web of deception and betrayal. A rival school, led by the ruthless Master Lo (Gordon Liu), is determined to crush Fong Yau’s school and take over control of the area. With the help of his henchmen and his treacherous wife, Master Lo will stop at nothing to achieve his goal.

The plot of Lady Is the Boss is fairly straightforward and predictable, with the usual themes and archetypes of martial arts movies. However, what sets this film apart is its incredible action sequences, choreographed by Lau Kar Leung himself. The fights are fast, brutal, and incredibly well shot, featuring a wide array of weapons, acrobatics, and hand-to-hand combat.

Kara Hui shines in her role as Fong Yau, bringing a fierce determination and a vulnerability to her character. She is not just a skilled fighter, but also a complex individual struggling to earn the respect of those around her. Lau Kar Leung is also impressive as So Chan, playing the role with his signature charm and charisma.

Gordon Liu is a menacing presence as the villain, Master Lo. He delivers a strong and convincing performance that makes him one of the most memorable enemies in martial arts cinema. Hsiao Ho and Robert Mak also deserve honorable mentions for their supporting roles as students of Fong Yau’s school.

Overall, Lady Is the Boss is a must-watch for fans of martial arts movies. Its impressive action scenes, strong performances, and engaging story make it one of the best films in the genre.
