Watch Legend of Su-Ling

The Enchanted Tales Collection presents ‘The Legend of Su-Ling’. This is an animated version of legendary myths and tales from the Far East with memorable children songs. An emperor relies on the villagers of his land to honor him with gifts. One day, Prince Chen is tending to his mother’s garden where his arranged wedding is to take place. The Prince is not happy with this arrangement and returns to the palace where the villagers are paying their respects to the emperor by bringing him dishes from all over the land. Prince Chen finds one of the lesser servants who was caught stealing from the emperor’s treasure, being harassed by the Emperor’s aids. In disgust, Prince Chen attempts to convince the aid that there is more to life than riches when his father the emperor enters.

The Emperor realizes that he is not pleased with his treasures and decides to send out his army and servants into the land to find something that he does not yet possess. The Prince expresses his displeasure to the emperor about life in the palace and decides to run away to discover life for himself to the emperor’s displeasure. As the servants look through the village, Prince Chen encounters a beautiful peasant girl who is distraught that her nightingale was taken away. The prince finds that it was taken to the emperor to sing for him as it is something that he does not possess.

Despite all efforts, the nightingale will not sing for the emperor so in desperation, he sends his guards out to arresting the peasant girl’s father in order to make the bird sing, bringing the peasant girl and the prince back to the palace. The emperor soon discovers the prince’s love for the peasant girl and is forced to make a decision as Prince Chen stands defiant against him with the peasant girl at his side. Between the nightingale, the prince and the peasant girl, the emperor must face the true value of happiness against his reign before the prince’s wedding day. This animated feature was directed by Award winning director Diane Eskenzai and was released in 1998 by Golden Pictures.
