Legend of the Fox is a Hong Kong martial arts film from 1980, directed by Chang Cheh and starring Siu-Ho Chin, Sheng Chiang, and Linda Chu. The movie tells the story of Hsiao Hu, a young fighter who becomes embroiled in a conflict between two rival factions fighting over a powerful ancient sword. The film starts with a group of warriors, known as the Eagles, searching for the powerful Dragon Sabre sword, which is believed to be hidden somewhere in a remote temple. However, their quest is interrupted by a group of bandits lead by the villainous Yun Mun, who is also seeking the sword for his own purposes.

Meanwhile, Hsiao Hu (Siu-Ho Chin) is a young man who has been raised by a group of monks in the same temple where the sword is believed to be hidden. He is a talented fighter but lacks discipline and maturity. When Hsiao Hu learns about the conflict, he becomes curious about the sword and sneaks out of the temple to investigate.

Soon, Hsiao Hu finds himself embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse between the Eagles and the bandits, who are both trying to capture him in order to gain an advantage over the other. Along the way, Hsiao Hu also meets a young woman named Shangguan Feiyan (Linda Chu) who is searching for her father, a renowned swordsman who disappeared years ago.

As the conflict between the Eagles and the bandits escalates, Hsiao Hu becomes more involved, using his martial arts skills to fight off attackers and help his new friends. But when he finally finds the Dragon Sabre, he realizes that its power is too great and too dangerous for anyone to wield. Hsiao Hu must decide whether to keep the sword for himself, or destroy it for the greater good.

The fight scenes in Legend of the Fox are the highlight of the film. They are well choreographed and feature a variety of weapons, including spears, swords, and even a chain with a sickle on the end. The action is fast-paced and exciting, with plenty of acrobatics and stunt work.

The characters in the movie are a mixed bag. Hsiao Hu is a likable protagonist, but he lacks the depth and complexity of some of the other characters in the film. Yun Mun is a fairly one-dimensional villain, motivated solely by greed and power. Shangguan Feiyan is an interesting character, but her story arc feels somewhat underdeveloped.

The production design in Legend of the Fox is also worth mentioning. The temple where Hsiao Hu was raised is beautifully shot, with stunning scenery and atmospheric lighting. The costumes are also well crafted, with the characters wearing traditional Chinese robes and armor.

Overall, Legend of the Fox is an entertaining action movie that will appeal to fans of martial arts films. The fight scenes are the highlight of the film, and the production design is impressive. However, the characters and the story are somewhat shallow, and the pacing can drag at times. Despite its flaws, Legend of the Fox is a good example of the Hong Kong martial arts genre and worth watching for fans of the genre.

Legend of the Fox is a 1980 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 9 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7.
