Life 101 is a coming-of-age drama-comedy film from 1995 directed by Redge Mahaffey. The film stars Corey Haim, Ami Dolenz, Keith Coogan, and Louis Mandylor in the lead roles. The movie follows the story of a young man named Corey Peterson (Corey Haim), who dreams of one day becoming a successful businessman. However, when he fails to win a scholarship to a prestigious university, he instead opts for the nearby community college. Corey is initially pessimistic about his future prospects at the community college and sees it as a setback to his lifelong ambitions.

At the college, Corey meets some new friends who are also in the same situation as him. Among them are Maggie (Ami Dolenz), who has aspirations of becoming an artist but is pressured by her father to study science, and Roger (Keith Coogan), who is studying to become a doctor even though he has zero interest in the field. They all bond over their shared feelings of uncertainty and confusion about their future.

As the semester progresses, Corey and his friends begin to learn life lessons beyond their academic studies. They encounter various struggles such as financial problems, relationship issues, and the pressure of succeeding in their respective fields. The film deals with some heavy themes like suicide, depression, and rejection, but it balances it out with humor and heartwarming moments.

The performances delivered by the cast are exceptional, with Corey Haim giving a poignant portrayal of a young man grappling with the realization that his dreams might not be as easily attainable as he initially thought. Louis Mandylor also delivers an excellent performance as the enigmatic Professor Pipkin, who teaches Corey a valuable lesson about the reality of the working world that he could not have learned from any textbook.

The film's soundtrack is also worth noting, featuring popular hits from the 90s such as "You Were Meant for Me" by Jewel and "Good Intentions" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. The music adds to the film's nostalgic charm, transporting the viewer back to the simpler days of the 90s.

Overall, Life 101 is a moving and relatable film that explores the struggles and triumphs of young adulthood. It teaches us that sometimes the road to achieving our goals is not a straight line, but rather a journey filled with detours and challenges that shape us into the people we are meant to be.
