Lightning: Fire from the Sky is a 2001 disaster film directed by David Giancola. Starring John Schneider, Jesse Eisenberg, and Michele Greene, the movie tells the story of a small town in Oklahoma that is struck by a series of devastating lightning storms. The film opens with a young boy named Eric (played by Eisenberg) witnessing his father's death during a thunderstorm. Years later, Eric has become a brilliant scientist specializing in the study of electricity and lightning. He returns to his small hometown at the request of his mother, who believes that the recent lightning strikes are not natural but instead caused by human intervention.

Eric soon discovers that a secret government experiment involving a huge antenna is causing the storms. As the situation worsens, Eric and a group of locals including the local sheriff (Schneider) and a news reporter named Jennifer (Greene) must race against time to stop the experiment and save the town from total destruction.

One of the strengths of Lightning: Fire from the Sky is its use of special effects to create a sense of tension and danger. The storms themselves are depicted in a realistic and terrifying manner, with lightning strikes hitting buildings and trees, and causing massive explosions.

In addition to the special effects, the film also features strong performances by its cast. Schneider, who is perhaps best known for his role in the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, brings a sense of authority and determination to his role as the sheriff trying to protect his town. Greene is also excellent as the intrepid reporter who has no qualms about getting her hands dirty to uncover the truth.

Perhaps the most impressive performance, however, comes from Eisenberg. It's clear from his early scenes in the movie that his character has a complex relationship with both his father and the town he grew up in. Eisenberg imbues Eric with a sense of pain and vulnerability, as well as a steely determination to uncover the truth about the lightning strikes.

On the downside, the film's plot can at times feel a bit formulaic, particularly if you're familiar with disaster movies from the 1990s and early 2000s. There are moments when the dialogue feels a bit heavy-handed, and some of the action sequences feel like they were included more for spectacle than for driving the story forward.

Overall, however, Lightning: Fire from the Sky is an enjoyable and thrilling disaster movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The strong performances and impressive special effects are more than enough to make up for any shortcomings in the script, and the film's underlying message about the dangers of playing with forces beyond our control is an important reminder for us all.

Lightning: Fire from the Sky is a 2000 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.4.
