Little Monsters is a 1989 American fantasy-comedy film directed by Richard Alan Greenberg and starring Fred Savage, Howie Mandel, and Daniel Stern. The movie tells the story of a young boy named Brian (Fred Savage) who is struggling to deal with his parents' separation. He is the new kid in a school where he has no friends and is constantly bullied by other kids. Brian feels alone and helpless in his life, and this is where his adventure begins.

One night, as he is struggling to fall asleep, Brian hears noises coming from under his bed. He discovers a portal that leads him to a secret world inhabited by monsters. One of the monsters, Maurice (Howie Mandel), befriends Brian and takes him on a wild and exciting adventure where they try to overcome obstacles and beat the bullies. They even go on a mission to kidnap Brian's brother Eric and bring him back to the monster world, which is the only place where they can ensure his safety.

Throughout the movie, Brian and Maurice are shown bonding and becoming friends, despite their huge differences. The monsters in this underground world are shown to be funny, silly, and often silly looking creatures that are harmless and just want to have fun. They even have their own set of rules and traditions, including a game they play called "glow ball," which is similar to soccer but with a ball that glows in the dark.

The main antagonist in the movie is a powerful monster named Boy (Frank Whaley), who is shown to be evil and dangerous. The monsters in the underground world are scared of him, and he is constantly trying to take over their world. Brian and Maurice come up with a plan to stop him, but they need the help of Brian's bully classmate Ronnie (Ben Savage) to make it happen.

The movie has a comedic tone throughout, with many funny moments and witty one-liners. It also addresses some darker themes, such as divorce, bullying, and sibling rivalry. However, these themes are not explored in too much depth, as the movie primarily focuses on the excitement and adventure of the underground world.

The performances in the movie are excellent, especially from Fred Savage and Howie Mandel. Fred Savage, who was already established as a child actor due to his role in The Wonder Years, portrays Brian as a relatable and likable character. Howie Mandel, who is known for his comedic talents, offers a lot of energy and humor to the character of Maurice. Daniel Stern, who plays Brian and Eric's father, has a smaller role but still manages to convey the pain and confusion of a man going through a divorce.

Overall, Little Monsters is an entertaining and fun movie that is suitable for the whole family. While it may not be a classic, it is a nostalgic and enjoyable watch that is sure to bring back memories for those who grew up in the 80s and 90s.

Little Monsters is a 1989 adventure movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
