Lucky Break is a comedy film that was released in 2001. It was directed by Peter Cattaneo, who also directed the hit movie, The Full Monty. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Ron Cook, Frank Harper, and James Nesbitt. It tells the story of a group of inmates who plan a prison break, hoping to escape the monotony of their daily routines and start a new life.

The story starts in the United Kingdom where criminal Jimmy Hands (James Nesbitt) gets caught after a failed robbery attempt. He is sent to Long Rudford prison to serve a 12-year sentence. After some time, he befriends fellow inmates, Rudy (Lennie James), Cliff (Ron Cook), and Perry (Frank Harper). Jimmy finds solace in playing football and becomes particularly talented in playing the goalie position.

One day, during a league match between the prisoners' team and the prison guards' team, a famous celebrity, Annabel Sweep (Olivia Williams), visits the prison to evaluate the conditions. She is impressed by Jimmy's skills and offers him a chance to become the goalie for the prison football team, consisting of former professional players.

Jimmy sees this as an opportunity to escape from prison, so he and his friends hatch a plan. They decide to stage a play and invite the celebrity to attend. During the performance, they will escape through an old tunnel that leads to an abandoned chapel. The tunnel has been blocked, but they hope to dig their way out to freedom.

The inmates begin to put their plan into action, but things do not go as smoothly as they had hoped. In the end, they are all caught, but the prison governor is so impressed by their play that he decides to give them a second chance. He grants them permission to stage another play outside the prison, with the condition that they return to the prison afterwards.

The inmates begin rehearsing for their new play, and during this time, Jimmy falls in love with Annabel Sweep. He tries to convince her to help him and his friends escape, but his attempts are in vain. She is sympathetic to their plight but cannot risk her career by getting involved.

As the play draws near, the inmates are filled with nervous anticipation. They know that this is their last chance to escape but are scared that they might get caught again. Meanwhile, Jimmy's feelings for Annabel continue to grow, and he begins to realize that he might be better off staying in prison.

The second performance is a huge success, and the inmates receive a standing ovation from the audience. However, when they return to the prison, they realize that they have been betrayed. They are all punished and demoralized, but Jimmy has a change of heart. He decides to turn his life around and become a better person.

Lucky Break is a heartwarming story about friendship, love, and redemption. It portrays the daily struggles of prison life, but also shows the resilience and determination of the human spirit. The movie has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, and is seen as one of the best British comedies of all time.

Lucky Break is a 2001 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 47 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2 and a MetaScore of 48.
