Main Azaad Hoon is a 1989 Bollywood drama film that sheds a light on the persisting socio-economic issues of India through the lens of a common man's struggle. The movie stars the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, along with Shabana Azmi and B.M. Shah in pivotal roles. The story revolves around Azaad (Amitabh Bachchan), a poor, uneducated manual laborer who lives in a slum in Mumbai with his wife Salma (Shabana Azmi) and their young son. Azaad is a principled man who stands up against corruption, social injustice and exploitation of the poor. He believes in speaking out the truth and fighting for one's rights.

The movie starts with Azaad being wrongly accused of theft and sent to jail, where he meets a prison reform activist (played by Anupam Kher). They bond over their shared ideologies and Azaad's innate sense of justice earns him the respect of his fellow inmates. Upon his release from jail, Azaad becomes a crusader for the rights of the poor, who have been oppressed by the rich and powerful.

Azaad's passion for justice and his fearless determination to fight against the corrupt system soon catch the attention of a journalist (played by Dimple Kapadia), who decides to write a series of articles about him. These articles bring Azaad to the forefront of the public eye and people start to rally behind him. A political party also takes notice of his influence and offers him a ticket to contest in the upcoming elections.

However, Azaad refuses to be a part of the corrupt political system and decides to continue his fight for justice as an independent candidate. He runs his campaign on the principles of honesty, integrity and social justice. His campaign gains momentum and his rallies draw huge crowds. The rich and the powerful, who see Azaad as a threat to their interests, try their best to intimidate him and tarnish his reputation.

Despite all the hurdles, Azaad continues his struggle, even as his family comes under threat. In the end, he emerges victorious, having won not just the elections but also the hearts of the people.

The movie touches upon several important themes such as corruption, poverty, social justice and the power of the media. It also highlights the need for education, the importance of standing up for one's rights and the role of the marginalized sections of society in bringing about change.

With powerful performances from the main cast, especially from Amitabh Bachchan who delivers a tour de force, the movie is a must-watch for anyone interested in understanding the challenges faced by the socio-economically deprived sections of Indian society. Directed by Tinnu Anand and produced by Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited, the movie is a testament to the enduring legacy of Amitabh Bachchan, India's biggest movie star.
