Malliswari from 2004 is a Telugu-language romantic comedy that tells the story of a young girl, Malliswari (Katrina Kaif) who is the only heir to her father, who happens to be the king of Udaipur. Malliswari is the ultimate princess, with beauty and grace unparalleled in the land. However, she retains a simple nature and a pure heart that endears her to all around her.

Venkatesh Daggubati plays the role of Abhiram, a carefree young man and diamond smuggler from Hyderabad. While on one of his smuggling runs, he sneaks into the palace in Udaipur to evade the police. Here he encounters Malliswari, and they quickly develop a friendship that blossoms into love. However, despite their mutual attraction, Malliswari is bound by duty to marry the man that her father chooses for her.

Adding to the mix is the presence of Nagaraju (Kota Srinivasa Rao), a shrewd businessman and friend of Abhiram's father, who sees the potential for a diamond in the Udaipur palace. Seeking to exploit this opportunity, he arranges Abhiram's entry into the palace as a suitor for Malliswari's hand in marriage. With time running out for Abhiram and Malliswari to declare their love, the race is on to find a way to overcome the various obstacles in their path.

As a romantic comedy, Malliswari does not stray too far from the well-worn genre tropes. The film relies heavily on the charms of its two leads to carry the story, and Venkatesh and Katrina are more than up to the task. Venkatesh brings a natural ease and charisma to his portrayal of Abhiram, while Katrina manages to make Malliswari into a believable, relatable character despite her princess status.

The film also features strong performances from several supporting actors, including Kota Srinivasa Rao as Nagaraju. He manages to imbue his character with both menace and comedy in equal measure, making him a worthy foil to Venkatesh's Abhiram. There is also good work from Brahmanandam as Abhiram's bumbling sidekick, and Sunil as the airport security officer tasked with tracking Abhiram down.

Director K. Vijaya Bhaskar keeps the film moving at a brisk pace, interspersing musical numbers and romantic interludes with action and comedy set pieces. The film's climax is resolved in a tidy and satisfying manner, giving audiences the happy ending they crave.

Overall, Malliswari is a light and entertaining love story that plays to the strengths of its charming lead actors. While the film may not offer up anything particularly revolutionary or groundbreaking, it is an enjoyable ride that will leave audiences with smiles on their faces. If you are looking for a romantic comedy with a bit of adventure and a lot of heart, then Malliswari is definitely worth a watch.
