Mangus! is a 2011 independent comedy-drama film written and directed by Ash Christian. The film follows Mangus Spedgwick (Ryan Boggus), a young man who is obsessively determined to star as Jesus in his high school's production of Jesus Christ Spectacular. He believes that playing Jesus will change his life, and that he may even be able to walk again.

Mangus had been a star football player with a promising future until he has an accident on the field that leaves him paralyzed from the waist down. The film takes place just before Mangus' senior year of high school. He has been homeschooled since his accident, but now he is ready to return to school and make his dreams come true.

Mangus comes from a very religious family. His mother, Cookie (Deborah Theaker), is a devout Christian who believes that her son was chosen by God to play Jesus in the school play. His father, Rev. Spedgwick (Charles Solomon Jr.), is the pastor of their church and is thrilled that his son wants to be involved in such an important project.

Mangus' determination to play Jesus is not shared by everyone. His classmates do not take him seriously, and his best friend, Cassidy (Heather Matarazzo), does not believe that he is ready to handle the pressure of taking on such an important role. She takes Mangus to a party where he meets a gay man named Buddy (John Waters), who provides some harsh but necessary advice.

Mangus also has a rival for the role of Jesus. Gene (Wesam Keesh), a popular jock at school, is also vying for the part. Gene is not a devout Christian like Mangus, but he is more physically capable and better connected than Mangus.

As Mangus prepares for his audition, he begins to have vivid dreams about the life of Jesus. These dreams lead him to make some questionable decisions, including stealing a donkey from a nativity scene and attempting to walk on water in his swimming pool.

Despite his setbacks, Mangus is determined to win the role of Jesus. The film culminates with the school's performance of Jesus Christ Spectacular.

Mangus! is a quirky and touching film that deftly balances comedy and drama. It deals with themes of acceptance, tolerance, and the power of faith. The film's cast delivers strong performances, particularly Ryan Boggus in the lead role. The score by Tim Delaughter of the Polyphonic Spree adds a charming and whimsical touch to the film.

Overall, Mangus! is a charming and offbeat coming-of-age story about a young man who is searching for meaning and purpose in his life. It celebrates the power of perseverance, the importance of friendship, and the beauty of being true to oneself.

Mangus! is a 2010 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.5.
