Martian Child is an American comedy drama film with a unique twist. It is about a writer who decides to adopt an odd boy who strongly believes that he is not of this Earth, but from Mars. The film was released on the 2nd of November 2009. The film was produced by the producer giant, New Line Cinema, under the direction of Menno Meyes. The film earned a rating of being a PG film for some mild language and thematic elements.
The film starts with David Gordon, a very popular author in the science fiction genre. He recently lost his wife while they were in the process of adopting a child of their own. After two years of waiting, David finally gets a match with Dennis, a young odd boy. Dennis is socially awkward for his age. On top of that, he firmly believes that he is from mars, and he only goes outdoors under the cover of a box. Dennis believes that this is the only way he can protect himself from the harmful rays of the sun.
At first, David is hesitant to adopt such an odd boy. However, David sees a part of him within the boy. David then slowly coaxes the boy out of his box and welcomes him to his home.
David is not alone in helping Dennis overcome some of his issues. David gets a lot of help from his sister Liz and Harlee, a good friend of his. Slowly but surely, they help Dennis and his incessant photo habits, perpetual stealing and preference of eating only Lucky Charms. Dennis also helps David in continuing and accepting the fate of her wife, his issues of accepted by others and rekindle his love for baseball.
Dennis still believes that he is learning to become an "Earthling" from David. In the end, they eventually learn to love and trust each other. Just like in a healthy real father and son relationship.
