Bill decides to move in with his brother. His brother's boyfriend encourages him to take up swimming again, and Bill agrees. The swimming helps him keep calm and have a clear head. Bill is also mentoring a child who devises a plan to help Bill get his wife back. He introduces Bill to a lingerie saleswoman in order in an attempt to make his wife jealous.
Bill is still trying to buy the doughnut franchise but needs his wife to sign some paperwork so he uses the lingerie saleswoman to act as his wife. Bill feels in control again and begins to work towards losing weight and winning his wife back.
After being thrown out of a picnic by his wife's lover and a trip to the hospital Bill decides he needs a change. He gives himself a makeover and goes to the bank to quit his job. He tells his father in law he does not feel as if he fits in anymore. His father in law agrees with him and shows him sympathy about his situation.
Towards the end of the movie Bill and his wife talk things out. They decide that it is best if they continue to go their separate ways. Though his marriage has ended he is happy that his life is starting a new chapter and he is able to move on.
