Melody, released in 1971, is a British musical comedy-drama directed by Waris Hussein. The film revolves around two eleven-year-old children, Daniel Latimer (Mark Lester) and Melody Perkins (Tracy Hyde), who develop a crush on each other and decide to get married. Jack Wild plays Ornshaw, Daniel's best friend, who often tries to discourage him from pursuing Melody.

The film starts with the introduction of Daniel, a quiet boy who is not interested in sports or other boys' activities. His parents, played by Glynn Edwards and Sheila Steafel, are unhappy with their son's lack of interest in normal boyish activities, and his father often chastises him for it. On the other hand, Melody is a happy-go-lucky girl who lives with her parents and a large number of siblings. Her father, played by Roy Kinnear, is a bus driver, and her mother, played by Kate Williams, is a housewife.

Daniel and Melody meet in school, and they both seem attracted to each other. Daniel is smitten with Melody's bubbly personality, and Melody likes Daniel's gentle demeanor. Daniel's friend, Ornshaw, is not happy about this budding romance and often tries to sabotage their relationship by teasing them and acting as the third wheel.

As the story progresses, Daniel and Melody come up with a plan to get married. They enlist the help of some of their schoolmates, who they pay to act as their wedding guests. The wedding ceremony takes place in a field, and the children are dressed up in their best clothes. The scene is reminiscent of a real wedding ceremony, with a vicar and vows exchanged.

After the wedding, the children face the realities of life. Both of their families are unhappy with their decision to get married and do not take their relationship seriously. Daniel's father tells him that he is too young to get married and advises him to focus on his studies. Melody's parents are also unhappy with their daughter's decision and ground her for a month.

The film ends with Daniel and Melody running away from their homes and living in an abandoned house. However, they quickly realize that they are not ready to live on their own, and they return to their families. The movie ends with the children's families reconciling and Daniel and Melody enjoying their childhood while still harboring feelings for each other.

Melody is a charming and heartwarming film that captures the innocence and beauty of childhood. The movie deals with the themes of love, family, and growing up. The film's musical score, composed by Bee Gees, adds to the overall charm of the movie. The actors, especially the child actors, give outstanding performances that are both natural and convincing.

Overall, Melody is a delightful movie that is sure to leave a smile on your face. Its nostalgic appeal and charming characters make it a must-watch for anyone who wants to relive their childhood or experience the magic of young love.
