Melissa Gilbert, Rosanna Arquette, and David Andrews star in Mistaken Identity, a thrilling crime drama movie from 1999. The story centers around a young woman named Alex Neil (Gilbert) who is a successful lawyer in Manhattan. Alex has everything going for her; she's smart, beautiful, and independent. However, her perfect life is turned upside down when she is mistaken for a killer and is forced to go on the run to clear her name.

The film starts with a wealthy businessman named Michael (Andrews) being murdered in his luxurious New York City apartment. The killer leaves behind barely any evidence, except for a single strand of blonde hair. The detective in charge of the case, Detective Monahan (played by Jay O. Sanders), is convinced that Alex is the killer. He sees her walking out of the building around the time of the crime, and the strand of hair found at the scene matches her hair color.

Alex is stunned when the police show up at her office to arrest her for Michael's murder. Despite her claims of innocence, the evidence seems to be stacked against her. Alex is then forced to go on the run, knowing that if she is caught, she could face life in prison. The only person willing to believe her story is a former client named Gina (Arquette). Gina is a rough-around-the-edges hairdresser who knows the ins and outs of the city, and she agrees to help Alex clear her name.

Alex and Gina's journey takes them from the gritty streets of New York City to the glamorous Hamptons, where Michael's family is throwing a lavish party. This is where Alex believes she can find the real killer and clear her name. However, the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger she puts herself and Gina in.

One of the strengths of Mistaken Identity is its ability to keep the audience guessing. Throughout the movie, there are multiple suspects, each with their own motives for killing Michael. As Alex and Gina unravel the case, they find themselves in increasingly dangerous situations, each one making them more convinced that the killer is someone they least expect.

The chemistry between Gilbert and Arquette is another highlight of the film. They are two very different characters, with Alex being a high-powered lawyer and Gina being a streetwise hairdresser. However, their friendship grows stronger as they face danger together. The script does a great job of developing their characters, allowing the audience to invest in their journey and root for their success.

The cinematography of Mistaken Identity also deserves mention. The film makes great use of the New York City and Hamptons locations. The city is shown in a gritty light, with dark alleyways and neon lights making for a moody atmosphere. The Hamptons, on the other hand, is shown in a bright and sunny light, with palm trees and blue skies making for a sharp contrast to the city scenes. The filmmakers make great use of these locations to add to the tension and atmosphere of the film.

Overall, Mistaken Identity is a thrilling crime drama with strong performances, great writing, and impressive cinematography. The film will keep you guessing until the very end, and the friendship between Alex and Gina will keep you invested in their journey.
