In Moonstruck, Cher stars as Loretta, a 37-year-old widow who lives with her parents in Brooklyn. Loretta has given up on love and is no longer interested in marriage, until her boyfriend Johnny proposes to her. While she is not completely sure if she is ready to marry again, she decides to accept Johnny's proposal anyway. On the night of the engagement party, Loretta meets Johnny's estranged younger brother, Ronny, played by Nicolas Cage. Ronny is an intense and brooding man who works as a baker and has a prosthetic hand due to an accident involving a bread slicer. Despite their initial dislike for each other, Loretta and Ronny feel an inexplicable attraction towards each other.

As the wedding date approaches, Loretta tries to deal with her feelings for Ronny and her obligation to marry Johnny. Meanwhile, she also has to confront the reality of her parents' rocky marriage, her mother's affair with a college professor, and her own regrets about her past.

The film is a romantic comedy-drama that explores themes of love, family, and the pursuit of happiness. Cher delivers a standout performance as Loretta, showcasing her range as an actress and earning her an Academy Award for Best Actress. The supporting cast, including Olympia Dukakis as Loretta's mother, Vincent Gardenia as Loretta's father, and Danny Aiello as Johnny, also shine in their roles. Their interactions and relationships provide comedic relief and heartwarming moments throughout the film.

The film's setting in New York City's Italian-American community adds to its charm and authenticity, with scenes taking place in Brooklyn Heights, the Metropolitan Opera, and numerous Italian restaurants.

Overall, Moonstruck is a beautifully crafted film that has stood the test of time. Its memorable performances, witty dialogue, and touching themes make it a classic in the romantic comedy-drama genre.
