Mutant Girls Squad is a 2010 Japanese action/horror movie directed by Tak Sakaguchi, Noboru Iguchi, and Yoshihiro Nishimura. The film tells the story of Rin, a teenage girl who discovers that she is part of a secret race of mutants with extraordinary powers. As she tries to uncover the truth about her ancestry, Rin becomes embroiled in a violent conflict between her fellow mutants and a government agency determined to wipe them out.

The movie opens with Rin (played by Asami) celebrating her sixteenth birthday with her family. However, the festivities are cut short when a group of armed men burst into the house and begin attacking them. In the chaos, Rin starts to exhibit strange abilities, including the ability to sprout razor-sharp claws from her hands. She manages to fight off her attackers and flee the scene.

As Rin tries to come to terms with her new powers, she encounters Kisaragi (Yumi Sugimoto), another mutant who helps her to understand what she is and where she comes from. Rin learns that she is part of a group of mutants who have been kept hidden from society by their parents, who feared they would be persecuted and hunted down for their abilities. Kisaragi introduces Rin to other mutants, including the charismatic and powerful Rei (Tak Sakaguchi).

Despite their efforts to keep a low profile, the mutants soon come under attack from a government agency called the Special Environment Preservation Agency (SEPA). Led by the sadistic Colonel (Naoto Takenaka), SEPA is determined to eradicate all mutants from society, seeing them as a threat to the human race. In response, Rin and her fellow mutants band together to form the Mutant Girls Squad, a team of warriors dedicated to defending their kind.

As the conflict escalates, with both sides resorting to ever more brutal tactics, Rin finds herself torn between her loyalty to her fellow mutants and her desire to live a normal life. She is also forced to confront the truth about her own origins, and the dark secrets that lie at the heart of SEPA's campaign against the mutants.

Mutant Girls Squad is a frenetic, action-packed movie, with plenty of gore and violence to satisfy fans of the genre. The mutant abilities on display are often gruesome and inventive, ranging from the aforementioned claws to acid vomit and snake hair. The fight scenes are choreographed with impressive skill, making use of wirework and CGI to create some truly breathtaking moments.

Despite its focus on action and horror, however, Mutant Girls Squad also has a strong emotional core. Rin's journey towards self-discovery and acceptance is a compelling one, and the themes of prejudice and oppression resonate strongly in today's world. The relationships between the mutants are also well-drawn, with a sense of camaraderie and loyalty that is genuinely touching.

The performances are strong across the board, with Asami in particular delivering a standout turn as Rin. She manages to convey both vulnerability and strength, and her transformation over the course of the movie is a joy to watch. Tak Sakaguchi is also highly charismatic as the rebel leader Rei, and Naoto Takenaka is suitably unhinged as the sadistic Colonel.

Overall, Mutant Girls Squad is a highly entertaining movie that will satisfy fans of both action and horror. Its combination of thrilling fight scenes and emotional resonance make it a cut above many entries in the genre, and its unique take on the mutant-human conflict is sure to linger in the memory.

Mutant Girls Squad is a 2010 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 25 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7.
