Mystery Team is a 2009 comedy movie directed by Dan Eckman and produced by Derrick Comedy. The film follows the adventures of three high school seniors who have been solving mysteries since they were children. The team consists of Jason (Donald Glover), the leader and master of disguises; Duncan (D.C. Pierson), the boy genius; and Charlie (Dominic Dierkes), the strongman. The Mystery Team investigate everything from missing cats to murder cases in their town.

The movie opens with the Mystery Team receiving a new case from a little girl who wants them to solve the mystery of her missing teddy bear. The team agrees to take on the case, but soon realizes that they are not as good at solving mysteries as they once were. They begin to question their methods and wonder if they should continue being detectives.

As the Mystery Team debates their future, they receive a call from a girl named Brianna (Aubrey Plaza), who wants them to solve the murder of her parents. The team agrees to take on the case, believing that this could be the one mystery that will prove them to be the real detectives they once were.

The Mystery Team begins to investigate the murder case and their naive approach to detective work leads to a lot of comical situations. They visit the crime scene and interview the suspects, which includes a drug dealer, a stripper, and a man dressed as a vampire. In the process of solving the crime, the team has to confront their own flaws and shortcomings, and learn a few lessons about growing up.

The movie is a parody of detective movies and TV shows, and it pokes fun at many of the tropes associated with the genre. The Mystery Team is portrayed as a group of kids who have never grown out of their childhood fantasy of being detectives, and as a result they often make things worse instead of solving the crime.

The movie features some great performances by the main cast. Donald Glover, who went on to become a household name for his work in Community and Atlanta, is hilarious as the self-proclaimed leader of the group. He is the one who comes up with the plans and sets the tone for the team. D.C. Pierson is also great as the boy genius who is always one step ahead of everyone else, and Dominic Dierkes provides a lot of the physical comedy with his portrayal of the strongman.

The supporting cast is also great, with Aubrey Plaza as the potential love interest and the one who brings the team the case, and Bobby Moynihan as the goofy, drug-dealing suspect. The movie also features cameo appearances by some big names like John Lutz, Matt Walsh, and Ellie Kemper.

One of the standout features of Mystery Team is its style. The movie has a distinct visual style that harkens back to the classic detective movies of the past. The movie was shot on a low budget, but the filmmakers were able to create a convincing world that feels like a throwback to classic Hollywood. The movie also features a great soundtrack that enhances the overall experience.

Overall, Mystery Team is a funny, quirky, and charming movie that will appeal to anyone who loves detective movies or comedies. It is a great showcase for the talents of Donald Glover, D.C. Pierson, and Dominic Dierkes, and it is a testament to the power of low-budget filmmaking. If you are looking for a lighthearted movie that will make you laugh, Mystery Team is definitely worth checking out.
