Naked is a 1993 British film directed by Mike Leigh, that follows the story of Johnny, a highly intelligent yet nihilistic, manipulative and sociopathic drifter, played by David Thewlis. The opening scenes of the film depict Johnny's abrupt departure from his girlfriend in Manchester in the middle of the night. He travels to London where he wanders through the streets, interacts with various characters and exposes the darker side of humanity's existence. His encounters include a security guard who tries to unmask his identity, a former lover, and a lonely woman who allows him into her apartment.

Throughout the film, we see Johnny as an observer of the world, detached from society and its moral values. He engages in philosophical conversations on a variety of topics including the meaning of life, personal responsibility, and the futility of love. Johnny's interactions with the various characters of the film reveal his manipulative and exploitative nature as he uses people to his advantage, and indulges in his sexual desires without care for the harm he causes others.

Lesley Sharp and Katrin Cartlidge, co-star in the film, playing Louise and Sophie respectively, the former being a friend of Johnny's ex-girlfriend and the latter a Scottish girl he meets in the streets. Both actresses give powerful performances, displaying a range of emotions as their lives are impacted by Johnny's manipulations.

The film's dark humor and gritty, unpolished visuals reflect the hopelessness and bleak outlook of Johnny's character. The use of improvisation during the film's production adds an air of authenticity to the interactions between the characters, including the non-judgmental tone used throughout the movie to tackle sensitive and controversial themes.

The soundtrack of Naked consists mostly of classical compositions, which creates a stark contrast with the raw and brutal atmosphere of the film. The opening credits of the film roll to the sound of Mozart's Requiem, foreshadowing the confrontations and brutal truth that Johnny encounters throughout the film.

The film's themes and messages are delivered in a raw and realistic manner, challenging the audience to question their own attitudes towards society, morality, and personal relationships. Naked is a thought-provoking film that delves deep into the darkness of human nature, and despite its grim and at times uncomfortable subject matter, is a testament to the creative talents of Mike Leigh, David Thewlis, Lesley Sharp, and Katrin Cartlidge. The film is a masterpiece of British cinema that continues to be celebrated by audiences worldwide for its uncompromising and honest approach to filmmaking.
