Nater Guru, released in 2003, is an acclaimed Indian Bengali-language drama film directed by Haranath Chakraborty. The movie stars Anshu Bach, Kaushik Bhattacharya, and Nimu Bhowmick in lead roles, and it also features Soumitra Chatterjee, Subhasish Mukhopadhyay, and Pradeep Singh Rawat in supporting roles. The film is set in a rural village in West Bengal, India, during the 1960s, and it tells the story of a young man named Shankar (played by Kaushik Bhattacharya) who is known as Nater Guru (which means "prophet of the village" in Bengali) by the villagers for his extraordinary skills as a snake-charmer. Shankar is a simple and innocent man who is deeply loved and respected by the villagers.

The movie begins with Shankar living a happy life with his mother (played by Nimu Bhowmick) in their village. One day, a wealthy man named Ratan Samadder (played by Pradeep Singh Rawat) comes to the village with his beautiful daughter, Jhinuk (played by Anshu Bach), and his menagerie of animals, which includes a large python named Madhumati.

Ratan Samadder, who is an industrialist, wants to start a factory in the village and needs to acquire the land where Shankar and his mother live. He tries to convince them to sell their land, but they refuse to do so. In order to force them to sell the land, Ratan Samadder uses his power and money to create trouble for them, which leads to a series of events that change Shankar's life forever.

As the story progresses, Shankar falls in love with Jhinuk, but their love is forbidden because of the social and economic differences between them. The movie, through the characters of Shankar and Jhinuk, raises questions about the social and economic inequalities that exist in Indian society and the struggles that people face to overcome them.

The film also touches upon themes of love, friendship, sacrifice, and the conflict between modernization and traditional values. The characters in the movie are well developed and have their own unique personalities, making them relatable and interesting to watch.

One of the highlights of the movie is the music, composed by R.P. Patnaik, which is excellent and complements the story and the characters perfectly. The songs are beautifully composed and have meaningful lyrics that add depth to the narrative.

Overall, Nater Guru is a well-made and emotionally impactful movie that is highly praised by critics and audiences alike. The movie's performances, direction, and music have received critical acclaim and have cemented Nater Guru's place as one of the finest Bengali movies of all time.
