See The Trailer For 3D-Animated 'Night Of The Living Dead'

A CG-animated take on "Night of the Living Dead," you say?

Well, if you must. But what I see doesn't instill optimism.

I admit, I'm hoping this is quickly forgotten shortly after its release and does little more than help us all appreciate how truly great the original was. But director Zebediah de Soto has crafted a new take on George A. Romero's 1968 classic "Night Of The Living Dead" entirely with 3D animation. He's deemed the project "a living painting . . . no one has ever seen anything like this on the big screen before."

That could be said about a lot of things. Often, it can be said because they're things everybody recognizes as bad ideas from inception that should never be fully realized.

In any case, de Soto's take won't necessarily be a tale about strangers hunkered down inside an isolated farmhouse and fending off the walking dead. Nope, this one instead follows a New York City zombie apocalypse and features voice talents Bill Harris, Danielle Harris and horror great Tony Todd.

OK, so I concede that the cell phone dialogue bit with the "They're coming to get you, Barbara!" nod to the original's famous opening scene made a nice touch. But I agree with how one Worstpreviews.com commenter reacted: it really does look more cinematic sequences from one of the "Left 4 Dead" or latter-day "Resident Evil" games than necessarily "Night Of The Living Dead."
