No Smoking is a 2007 Indian psychological thriller film directed by Anurag Kashyap, starring John Abraham, Ayesha Takia, and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. It was produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Vishal Bhardwaj. The film follows the story of K, a chain smoker, who visits a rehabilitation centre to quit smoking. However, the rehabilitation programme turns out to be more than what he had anticipated.

The movie begins with the protagonist, K (John Abraham), a successful ad executive, who is addicted to smoking. His wife, Anjali (Ayesha Takia), cannot stand the smell of the cigarette smoke and urges him to quit. K, however, is not willing to give up smoking, despite the health hazards and the social stigma attached to it. One day, K receives an invitation to visit a rehabilitation centre called Prayogshala, which claims to help people quit smoking within 7 days.

K reaches the centre, which is located in a remote area, to check it out. He is met by Baba Bengali (Paresh Rawal), the mysterious owner of Prayogshala, who tells him that smoking is not just a physical addiction but also a mental one. Baba Bengali tells K that if he wants to quit smoking, he has to sign a contract that binds him to obey all the rules of the centre, failing which he will be severely punished.

K signs the contract and enters the rehabilitation programme. However, he soon realizes that the programme is far from what he had expected. The rules of the centre are strict, and the punishment for breaking them is severe. Moreover, Baba Bengali seems to be controlling every aspect of K's life, from what he eats to how he thinks. K also starts having hallucinations, which make him question the reality of the situation.

As K progresses through the programme, he encounters several strange characters, including a woman who claims to be his ex-girlfriend, a doctor who promises to cure him through hypnosis, and a blindfolded man who seems to have transcended his addiction. However, K cannot trust any of them, as he suspects that they are all part of Baba Bengali's mind games.

The plot of the movie is gripping, and the director has kept the audience engaged throughout. The background score is haunting and sets the mood for a psychological thriller. The cinematography is unique and gives the movie an eerie feel. The acting by John Abraham is convincing, and he has done justice to the role of a confused and paranoid smoker. Ayesha Takia does not have a lot of screen time, but she manages to leave an impact as K's worried wife. Paresh Rawal is exceptional in his role of Baba Bengali, and he adds a touch of insanity and unpredictability to the character.

In conclusion, No Smoking is not just a movie about quitting smoking. It is a movie about the dangers of addiction, the power of the mind, and the consequences of giving into temptation. It is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers and is looking for something out of the ordinary. The movie will leave you with a sense of unease and a lot of questions, and it will make you think twice before lighting up that next cigarette.
