Not Now, Comrade is a 1976 British farce that revolves around a politician, a British spy, and a member of the Soviet Union's KGB. Directed by Ray Cooney and produced by Peter Egan, the film stars Lewis Fiander, Richard Marner, and Michael Sharvell-Martin in lead roles. The plot of the movie revolves around Bernard (Fiander), a British cabinet minister who has a penchant for private sexual encounters with women. He finds himself in a compromising position with a young woman named Barbara (Carol Hawkins), who happens to be the wife of a Russian diplomat, Georgi (Marner). To make matters worse, the incident is witnessed and secretly filmed by a clumsy British spy, Commander Rimmington (Sharvell-Martin) who believes that Bernard may have been seduced by a Soviet agent.

To cover up the scandal, Georgi enlists the help of his KGB agent pal, Leonid (Donald Sinden), and together they hatch a plan to steal the incriminating film. However, things don't go according to plan, and the situation becomes increasingly chaotic when unexpected visitors start turning up at the apartment.

At the heart of Not Now, Comrade is a classic British farce, full of misunderstandings, mistaken identities, and double entendres. The film is unashamedly silly, with a plot that revels in its absurdity, and a script that is packed with jokes and one-liners. The slapstick humor is complemented by a cast of talented actors, who deliver their lines with impeccable timing and comic flair.

Lewis Fiander is a convincing leading man, taking on the role of the hapless politician with great finesse. He is supported by Richard Marner, who delivers a strong performance as the suspicious Russian diplomat. Michael Sharvell-Martin is also excellent as the bumbling Commander Rimmington, adding a dash of physical comedy to his role.

In addition to its comedic core, Not Now, Comrade is also a reflection of the political tensions of the time. The movie was released during the height of the Cold War, and its central premise of a politician being caught in a compromising position with a Russian woman could be seen as a commentary on the political climate of the day.

Despite its political undertones, Not Now, Comrade is first and foremost a comedy, and a very funny one at that. Its light-hearted approach to its subject matter makes it an entertaining and enjoyable film to watch. While it may not be groundbreaking in its approach or style, it is a solid example of the British farce at its best.

The film is visually pleasing, with colorful sets and stylish costumes that evoke the glitz and glamour of the 1970s. The soundtrack is also notable, featuring catchy tunes that add to the film's upbeat mood.

Overall, Not Now, Comrade is a delightful comedy that is sure to entertain fans of British farce. Its mix of humor and political commentary makes it a product of its time, but its timeless appeal and charming cast ensure that it remains a fun and entertaining film to watch even today.
