Off Limits is a 1952 musical comedy film, directed by George Marshall and starring Bob Hope, Mickey Rooney and Marilyn Maxwell. The film takes place in post-World War II Japan, where the US Army has a military police force to maintain law and order. The story centers around two army sergeants, Jerry Morgan (Bob Hope) and Mike Schwartz (Mickey Rooney), who are partners in crime and always looking for a way to make some extra money. When they hear about a local club that's being visited by high-ranking officials, they decide to sneak in and see if they can get some lucrative contracts. However, things quickly go awry when they find themselves in the middle of a murder investigation.

As the two sergeants try to stay out of trouble, they become embroiled in a complex web of conspiracies and cover-ups that threaten to derail their plans. Along the way, they encounter a host of colorful characters, including a conniving hotel owner, a shady nightclub singer and a beautiful American Red Cross worker named Wilhelmina (Marilyn Maxwell), who catches Jerry's eye.

Despite the serious nature of the plot, Off Limits is primarily a comedic film, with Bob Hope in top form as the wisecracking Jerry Morgan. His chemistry with Mickey Rooney is also excellent, as the two actors play off each other's strengths to create some truly memorable scenes.

The film also features several musical numbers, including a lively dance sequence with Marilyn Maxwell and a catchy duet between Bob Hope and Mickey Rooney. While the songs are not particularly memorable, they add to the overall upbeat tone of the movie.

Off Limits is not without its flaws, however. The pacing can be a bit uneven at times, and the plot can be convoluted and hard to follow. Additionally, some of the humor hasn't aged particularly well, particularly in regards to certain cultural references.

Despite these issues, Off Limits remains an enjoyable film that showcases the talents of Bob Hope and Mickey Rooney. The movie is an interesting snapshot of post-war Japan, with its mix of American and Japanese cultures on display. Ultimately, however, it is the comedic performances of the cast that make Off Limits a worthwhile watch for fans of classic Hollywood comedies.
