Oh, God! You Devil is a witty and entertaining comedy film directed by Paul Bogart and released in 1984. The movie stars the legendary George Burns, who plays both God and the Devil, as well as Ted Wass and Ron Silver. The story follows Bobby Shelton (played by Ted Wass), a struggling musician who has hit a low point in his life. He's out of work, fresh out of a failed relationship, and almost homeless. As he's contemplating suicide, he is visited by Harry O. Tophet (George Burns), a charming and charismatic businessman who claims to be the Devil. Harry offers Bobby a deal: he will make him famous and successful, but in return, Bobby will have to sign over his soul to Harry.

Bobby agrees to the deal, but things quickly start to go wrong. He becomes hugely successful as a musician, but his success only seems to bring him more problems. Bobby's girlfriend, Wendy (Roxanne Hart), becomes increasingly distant, and his relationship with his best friend, Max (Ron Silver), also starts to suffer.

As Bobby becomes more and more disillusioned with his Devil's bargain, he reaches out to God (also played by George Burns) for help. God, however, has a mischievous sense of humour, and decides to help Bobby by sending him on a bit of a wild-goose chase.

As the story unfolds, we see Bobby trying to navigate the ups and downs of his newfound success, all while struggling to reconcile his moral beliefs with the devilish pact he has made. Along the way, we get to witness some hilarious exchanges between the two Georges: Burns' portrayal of God is as warm and avuncular as ever, while his portrayal of the Devil is a bit more sly and mischievous.

The film is well-crafted and manages to strike a good balance between its comedic and philosophical elements. The script, written by Andrew Bergman, is sharp and witty, and the performances by the cast are top-notch. Ted Wass does a great job in the lead role as Bobby, exuding a likable, Everyman charm that makes him easy to root for. Ron Silver is also excellent as Bobby's best friend, a somewhat cynical but ultimately caring character who serves as a great foil for Bobby's naive optimism.

But the real star of the show is, of course, George Burns. With his characteristic twinkle in his eye and his smooth delivery, he brings a warmth and humanity to both his roles as God and the Devil. His comedic timing is impeccable, and he can deliver a punchline with the best of them. But he also has a way of infusing his lines with a deeper meaning, making the film's philosophical musings feel weighty and substantial.

Overall, Oh, God! You Devil is an enjoyable and thought-provoking film that manages to be both hilarious and meaningful at the same time. Its blend of comedy and philosophy might not be for everyone, but for those who appreciate a good chuckle and a bit of philosophical contemplation, this movie is definitely worth checking out.

Oh, God! You Devil is a 1984 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.4 and a MetaScore of 49.
