Oil Storm is a made-for-TV disaster movie from 2005 that explores what might happen if a hurricane were to hit Houston just as the United States is in the midst of an escalating oil crisis. The film highlights the devastating effects of natural disasters, especially when they intersect with critical infrastructure, like oil refineries.

At the beginning of the movie, viewers are introduced to a variety of characters, each representing a different aspect of the oil industry. Melody Chase plays an ambitious Wall Street analyst named Miranda who believes that oil prices are about to skyrocket. Her predictions catch the attention of government officials, including FEMA administrator Tom Sanders (played by Liev Schreiber) and Collin Price (played by Jay O. Sanders), the Secretary of Energy.

Meanwhile, Lance E. Nichols stars as the manager of an oil refinery in Houston. As a hurricane approaches the city, he works tirelessly to prepare the refinery for the storm, securing loose equipment and prepping for potential flooding.

As the hurricane makes landfall, the viewer sees the city of Houston struggle to survive the storm. But it's not just the wind and rain that are causing problems. The critical infrastructure of the city is also taking a major hit. Oil rigs are destroyed, causing fires to rage out of control. Refinery workers are injured or killed. And perhaps most devastatingly, the power grid goes down, leaving millions of people without access to electricity.

As officials and citizens struggle to cope with the aftermath of the hurricane, Miranda's predictions come true – oil prices skyrocket, leading to mass panic and widespread unrest. We see gas stations running out of fuel, cars stranded on the side of the road, and people hoarding supplies. In this post-apocalyptic world, it's every man for himself.

The film does an excellent job of portraying the ripple effects that a disaster like this would have on every aspect of society. We see hospital patients struggling to survive without electricity, businesses shutting down, and people being forced to make impossible choices.

But the film isn't all doom and gloom – there are moments of hope and resilience as well. We see citizens banding together to help each other out, refusing to succumb to the chaos that surrounds them. And in the end, the film serves as a warning about the dangers of placing too much reliance on one resource – oil – and the need to invest in alternative forms of energy.

Overall, Oil Storm is a compelling disaster film that explores important themes about the interconnectedness of society and the need to think critically about our infrastructure and resource management. While it may not have the same level of special effects as some Hollywood blockbusters, the strong acting and intense storyline make it a movie that is definitely worth checking out.
