In the midst of World War II, the British army is desperate for a victory in North Africa. Lieutenant Douglas (Michael Caine) is tasked with assembling a team of mercenaries to carry out a dangerous mission: to destroy a fuel depot deep behind enemy lines. However, these are not your typical soldiers. Douglas must recruit a group of prisoners who have been given the opportunity for freedom if they complete the mission successfully.
