Produced by MTV Films and Chris Rock Productions Pootie Tang is a comedy film based on a character appearing in The Chris Rock Show. The 81 minute film uses the commonly found characters in 1970s blaxploitation movies to bring humor to the movie; like many characters found in blaxploitation movies Pootie speaks in a street slang almost unintelligible to the audience. Although the movie carries the name of the director and writer as Louis C.K., the director courted controversy by claiming he was removed from the film during post production. Louis C.K. later claimed the finished film does not resemble the movie he wished to make during filming.
The plot of the movie revolves around U.S. pop culture icon and crime fighter Pootie Tang and his fight to halt the spread of the multinational business headed by Dick Lecter. The movie starts with a brief explanation of the early life of Pootie with his parents, particularly his father Daddy Tang. Explaining that his belt holds superpowers, Daddy Tang gives the young Pootie his belt to fight for the side of right shortly before he is killed in a bear attack while working. Pootie goes on to become a successful singer, music producer and crime fighter until he crosses the path of Dick Lecter who uses a woman to seduce and corrupt Pootie.
With his reputation in tatters, Pootie heads into the countryside to begin a career as a farmer until he sees a vision of his parents. Returning to the city, Pootie finds Lecter's gang and regains his belt and is forced to fight a series of look alikes designed to keep pushing the message of Lecter's corporation. Eventually, Pootie is forced to fight Lecter and discredit him in order to halt the spread of the negative message spread by Lectercorp and regain his love interest.
