Rainbow Eyes is a 2007 Korean thriller film directed by Yang Yun-ho, starring Kang-woo Kim, Gyu-ri Kim, and Su-kyeong Lee. The movie tells a story about a serial killer and the detectives who are working hard to catch him. The film takes place in Seoul, Korea, where a series of murders occur. The victims all have one thing in common: they all have different colored eyes. The murderer is dubbed "Rainbow Killer" by the media. The detectives in charge of the investigation are Jo (Kang-woo Kim) and Lee (Gyu-ri Kim), who have their own issues to deal with while solving the case.

Jo is a detective who always follows the rules and is respected by his colleagues. However, he has a dark past that haunts him every day. His wife and daughter were killed by a hit-and-run driver, and he blames himself for their deaths. Lee, on the other hand, is a talented but reckless detective who has a reputation for disobeying orders. She also has a troubled past, having been sexually assaulted by a colleague in the past.

As the investigation progresses, Jo and Lee realize that the killer is someone they know. They narrow down their suspect list to three people: Kim (Su-kyeong Lee), a young woman who works at a bakery and has a crush on Jo, Ji-hyeon (Byeong-man Kim), a taxi driver who has a grudge against the police, and Gyu-seob (Eung-soo Kim), a man who owns a dog that was used to attack one of the victims.

The detectives have to gather evidence and follow leads to catch the killer before he strikes again. The Rainbow Killer seems to stay one step ahead of them, as each time they approach a suspect, he changes his strategy and commits another murder.

Rainbow Eyes is not your typical detective thriller. While most movies in this genre focus solely on the investigation, Rainbow Eyes also delves into the lives of the detectives and how the case affects them emotionally. The character development of Jo and Lee is fascinating to watch. Their relationship starts off antagonistic and cold, but as they work on the case together, they form a bond that helps them overcome their individual struggles.

The acting in Rainbow Eyes is top-notch. Kang-woo Kim delivers a nuanced performance as Jo, balancing his character's stoicism with flashes of vulnerability. Gyu-ri Kim plays Lee with the right amount of sass and toughness. Su-kyeong Lee is effective as Kim, the innocent and lovestruck suspect caught up in the investigation. The supporting cast also delivers strong performances, especially Eung-soo Kim as Gyu-seob, the creepy dog owner.

The direction by Yang Yun-ho is also noteworthy. He keeps the tension high throughout the film, using close-ups and a tight camera to create a sense of unease. The pacing is steady, with the story unfolding at just the right speed to keep the audience engaged. The cinematography is beautiful, showcasing the city of Seoul at both its peaceful and dark moments.

Rainbow Eyes is not without its flaws. Some of the plot twists feel a bit forced and contrived, and the ending might leave some viewers feeling unsatisfied. However, the movie as a whole is an enjoyable and engaging thriller that showcases the talents of its cast and director.

In conclusion, Rainbow Eyes is a terrific Korean thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. It has strong performances, excellent direction, and a story that is both intriguing and emotional. Fans of the genre should definitely give this movie a chance.
