In the early 1980s, a British-American adventure film by the name of 'Raise the Titanic!' was released. The movie is based on the novel of the same name written by Clive Cussler. Directed by Jerry Jameson and featuring a cast of notable actors like Jason Robards, Richard Jordan, and David Selby, the story revolves around the salvage mission of the famous RMS Titanic, which sank in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg.

The movie opens with an introduction to Admiral James Sandecker (played by Jason Robards), who heads the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA). The story then moves forward to episodes in the Soviet Union where their nuclear missile's guidance system has a malfunction, leading to a nuclear disaster. The only way to control the damage is the recovery of a rare mineral called Byzantium, which happens to be abundant in large amounts aboard the sunken Titanic.

Soon, the US government begins orchestrating a plan to retrieve the mineral from the wreckage of Titanic. The President of the United States orders Sandecker and his team at NUMA to attempt to raise the Titanic in a costly and desperate search for the Byzantium. Once Sandecker's plan is authorized, he recruits the help of an expert in underwater salvage named Dirk Pitt (played by Richard Jordan) and a journalist named Dana Archibald (played by Anne Archer) to assist with the mission.

At this point, Sandecker's plan starts to fall apart with Pitt, Dana, and other NUMA personnel running into various obstacles, including funding, sabotage, and unexpected circumstances that make it harder for them to execute the mission. Things get even more complicated when a third-party interested in the mission infiltrates the NUMA team and causes further complications.

As the narrative progresses, the importance of the Byzantium becomes more apparent, and the risk of the mission being a failure increases. Pitt, Dana, and the rest of the team face a myriad of challenges as they attempt to retrieve the mineral and bring the Titanic to the surface. Meanwhile, on the surface, the US Navy and Russian spy vessels monitor the situation as the operation nears its climax.

The movie's climax is breathtaking as the team approaches the Titanic's resting place in the ocean depths. Once there, the team faces further obstacles that threaten the safety of the mission and the survival of its members. However, in true Hollywood style, the rescue attempt is completed successfully with the Titanic being brought to the surface.

Overall, Raise the Titanic! is an engaging and thrilling film, with a combination of adventure and drama that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. It has a talented cast, a well-constructed plot, and an impressive portrayal of the historic ship's tragic sinking. Although some of the visuals and special effects may appear dated by today's standards, the movie still offers an entertaining and captivating story that will leave viewers with a sense of triumph and relief when the Titanic finally reaches the surface.

Raise the Titanic! is a 1980 adventure movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 55 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.1.
