"Rann" is a 2010 Hindi language political drama film directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Gul Panag, and many more talented actors. The film analyzes the role of media in democracy and the danger of media sensationalism. The story of the film revolves around a veteran media personality, Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan), who is the founder and CEO of a news channel called India 24/7. Vijay, who is also known as Viki, is respected and loved by millions of people for his strong values, integrity, and commitment to the truth. His son Jay Malik (Sudeep) is the head of a rival news channel and has always been in competition with him.

One day, an ambitious and manipulative business tycoon called Amrish Kakkar (Mohnish Bahl) proposes a deal to Viki to merge his channel with India 24/7. The deal will make Viki a billionaire, but he initially declines the offer, as he doesn't want to compromise on his ethics and integrity. However, with time, he gives in to the deal but later regrets it as he realizes the crafty business tycoon's motives were to serve his political interests.

During this time, Viki assigns his son Jai's best friend and reporter Purab (Riteish Deshmukh) to cover a group of farmers' protests in a rural region. However, this story is overshadowed by the breaking news of a terrorist attack that kills a popular Bollywood actor at an award function ceremony. Purab manages to shoot exclusive footage of the event, which brings a lot of TRP ratings to the channel. Still, as the story unfolds, it turns out that the channel has been used to spread fake news and exaggerate the facts to secure ratings and viewership.

The plot thickens, and the web of deceit gets darker as Viki's struggle to maintain truth and integrity becomes more challenging. Meanwhile, Viki's wife (Neetu Chandra) tries to support her husband's values and decides to initiate a campaign against prostitution to help eradicate social evils even though it affects their family's reputation.

On the other hand, Nitin, a politician (Paresh Rawal), hires a media person (Rajat Kapoor) to make fake news about a terrorist attack that never happened in the hopes of winning the upcoming elections. The fake news leads to communal disharmony and ultimately leads to a riot between two communities.

"Rann" is an insightful, thought-provoking, and hard-hitting commentary on politics, media, and the need for responsible journalism. The film shows how news channels sensationalize and manufacture stories instead of presenting the facts to their audience, leading to the deterioration of democracy. The performances of all actors, especially that of Amitabh Bachchan, are commendable and show to what extent people go for their principles and ethical standards.

In conclusion, "Rann" is a must-watch movie that will make you ponder over the role of media in society and the importance of responsible journalism. It's a film that everyone should watch to get a glimpse of how the media manipulates information and how it can affect the common man's life.
