Kevin Smith Didn't Lie About 'Red State' Auction

Kevin Smith is often a point of contention, as you either love him or you hate him. Lately, the film industry has been on the "hate" side of the argument after Smith duped them all at the Sundance Film Festival. Many claim that Smith lied when he said that he would put the rights to his new film "Red State" up for auction but immediately sold the movie to himself.

Well, Smith begs to differ. He told host Chris Hardwick in an interview on the Nerdist Podcast that he doesn't think he lied, and he reiterated the point in an interview with Rolling Stone's Peter Travers. "I'm still flabberghasted that right after that screening there were a bunch of people that wanted to cut my ankles off," said Smith.

Smith's plan for "Red State" (notably his first horror film) is an interesting one: rather than go through the studios, Smith is touring the country with the film and screening it for fans.

Fans, that is, who are willing to shell out $60 for the screening. The tour will hopefully help raise enough money for a proper nationwide distribution, along with Smith's own funding.

The "Clerks" director plans to kick things off at Radio City Music Hall, which seats about 6,000 people...so if you're hoping to see the very first screening of the tour, chances are you'll be able to get yourself a ticket without too many problems.
