This thriller/horror movie version of Red Riding Hood was directed by Catherine Hardwicke and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. It was based off of a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson. The movie is centered on a young woman, Valerie, who lives in the village of Daggerhorn with her parents and her older sister. Valerie has fallen in love with the local woodcutter Peter but her family has already promised her hand in marriage to a wealthy townsman. Valerie and Peter have made their plans to runaway together but the curse of the town makes it impossible.
The village of Daggerhorn lies on the edge of a forest plagued by a werewolf and although there was a truce with the werewolf to accept cattle sacrifices instead of townspeople, the wolf has broken the truce. The local preacher calls for help from Father Solomon, a famous witch hunter. Before he can arrive a group of the locals decide to head into the woods to find and kill the wolf. After attacking the group the wolf is cornered and killed.
As the village is celebrating the death of the wolf, Father Solomon arrives. He immediately informs them that they killed a common grey wolf because if it had been the werewolf than it would have taken back its human form when it died. The concern is only amplified when he informs them that they are entering the Blood Moon Week and anyone that has been bitten by the werewolf will become one during this time. Father Solomon and his team start investigating the townspeople to find which one is the werewolf.
It is said that Valerie can communicate with the werewolf and believing that she is a witch they capture her. As she is displayed in town square to lure out the werewolf, Peter and the man that Valerie was supposed to marry help her escape. Now they must find the real werewolf and kill it once and for all, before more innocent people perish.
