Red Vacance Black Wedding is a 2011 South Korean erotic drama film directed by Kim Tae-sik. The movie revolves around two different stories, one from “Red Vacation” and the other from “Black Wedding”. Although the stories are separate, they thematically overlap and are interrelated in a unique way.

The Red Vacation segment features a beautiful young woman named Mi-heun (played by Ji-hye Ahn) who is taking a break from her life in Seoul and staying at a beach resort. Her husband is out of the town on business, so she decides to let loose and have an affair with a man who stays at the same resort. She meets a young man named Min-seok, played by Jae-hyeon Jo, who works at an adventure park for tourists. Min-seok is a free spirit who wants to enjoy his youth, and Mi-heun quickly falls under his spell. They begin a passionate affair but things get complicated when Mi-heun’s husband unexpectedly returns home.

The Black Wedding segment tells the story of Hee-ra (played by Jin-joo Lee) a middle-aged woman who is about to marry for the second time. However, her ex-lover, Tae-kyung, played by Seung-joon Lee, is back in town, and Hee-ra finds herself drawn to him again. Tae-kyung, a small-time criminal, wants to get back together with Hee-ra and convinces her to help him with a blackmail scheme. Things turn dark when Hee-ra’s fiancé discovers the plot, and Hee-ra is forced to choose between love and loyalty.

The film has some explicit sexual content, but it is not gratuitous. Instead, the sex scenes are used to illustrate the intense emotions and tensions between the characters. The cinematography is also beautiful, with stunning shots of the beach and the sea.

The performances in the film are excellent, particularly from Ji-hye Ahn and Jae-hyeon Jo in the Red Vacation segment. Ahn brings depth and nuance to the character of Mi-heun, portraying a woman who is torn between her desires and her responsibilities. Jo is also excellent as Min-seok, bringing a sense of vulnerability and youthfulness to the character.

The Black Wedding segment is grittier and more intense than the first, with Jin-joo Lee and Seung-joon Lee delivering powerful performances. Jin-joo Lee conveys the character’s conflicting emotions with subtlety and nuance, while Seung-joon Lee is convincing as the dangerous and impulsive Tae-kyung.

The film’s narrative structure is also interesting, as both stories happen in parallel and overlap thematically. The Red Vacation segment is about a woman taking a break from her responsibilities, whereas the Black Wedding segment is about a woman in the middle of a major life change. However, both stories involve characters who are seeking freedom and independence, even if it means taking risks.

Overall, Red Vacation Black Wedding is a well-crafted and engaging film that explores themes of desire, loyalty, and risk-taking. With its stunning cinematography and excellent performances, the film is a compelling exploration of the complexities of love and relationships.
