Renegade stars U.S. Marshal Mike Blueberry (Vincent Cassel), who at the beginning of the movie remembers the events which lead up to the murder of his girlfriend by Wallace Blount (Michael Madsen). After Blueberry ends up being injured in a fire that started after the incident, he escapes and somehow treks out on horse away from the small town where it occurred, becoming unconscious along the way. He is rescued by a Native American and lives with his family in the mountains. At this point, the movie comes to the time with Blueberry as marshal of the same small town years later. Oddly enough, both Blueberry and Blount cross paths again. Blount is in search for a goldmine in the Superstition Mountains, and he will do anything at any cost until he reaches his goal.
This film is a Western that is set in a small town in the 1800's, and that is shown throughout. It comes at a time the actual search for gold is seen as important because of how valuable that it has become. There are plenty of live action scenes that involve either Blount or Blueberry, as well as other characters within the movie itself, such as Juliette Lewis, who plays the role of Maria Sullivan. However, the most important dynamic about this movie is Blueberry coming to grips with the death of his former girlfriend as the story moved forward. Like outer Westerns, the movie has a hero-villain conflict that goes throughout the entire movie. There are other conflicts that exist in this film, but this one stands out as the most important.
If you're looking for a movie that tells of the struggles of living in the Old West while also searching for gold, then Renegade is for you.
