Resident Evil: Afterlife is the fourth film in the Resident Evil franchise, based on the popular video game series of the same name. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the movie stars Milla Jovovich, who reprises her role as Alice, a former security officer with superhuman abilities, as well as Ali Larter, who returns as Claire Redfield, and Wentworth Miller, who plays the role of Chris Redfield.

The movie begins with Alice as she attempts to infiltrate the Umbrella Corporation headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, in search of her longtime nemesis, Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts). Despite her best efforts, Alice is unable to defeat Wesker and is forced to flee the building. However, before she can escape, Alice detonates a bomb that destroys the entire facility, leaving Wesker presumed dead.

Next, the story shifts to Alaska, where Alice receives a distress signal from a group of survivors who have taken refuge in a prison. Upon arriving at the prison, Alice reunites with Claire and discovers that a virus has decimated the population, turning most humans into flesh-eating zombies. Together, the trio sets out to find other survivors and learn more about the virus and its origins.

Along the way, Alice and her companions encounter a group of survivors who have taken over a Los Angeles skyscraper. Led by Luther West (Boris Kodjoe), the group includes Bennett (Kim Coates), Crystal (Kacey Barnfield), and Angel (Sergio Peris-Mencheta). Alice learns that a supposed safe haven known as Arcadia, located in Alaska, may hold the key to curing the virus and ending the outbreak, and the group sets out on a dangerous mission to reach it.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is a fast-paced action film that delivers exactly what fans of the franchise have come to expect: plenty of gore, intense fight scenes, and a general sense of tension and terror. The movie is shot in 3D, which adds an extra layer of excitement to the action sequences, and the special effects are generally impressive, especially when it comes to the various zombies and monsters the characters encounter.

What really sets the movie apart from its predecessors, however, is its focus on character development. While the previous films in the series have largely centered around Alice, Resident Evil: Afterlife gives more attention to the other main characters, particularly Claire and Chris Redfield. The interplay between the different characters adds an extra layer of drama to the movie and helps keep the viewer invested in their various fates.

Another standout feature of the film is the soundtrack, which is full of adrenaline-pumping techno and rock music that perfectly complements the action onscreen. The movie also incorporates nods to the video game series, such as the inclusion of a giant axe-wielding monster known as a "Executioner" that will be familiar to fans of Resident Evil 5.

Overall, Resident Evil: Afterlife is a solid addition to the franchise that delivers plenty of thrills and scares. While the storyline may not be particularly innovative, the movie makes up for it with its impressive visuals, engaging characters, and high-octane action sequences. Whether you're a longtime fan of the Resident Evil series or simply a horror aficionado looking for a good scare, this movie is definitely worth a watch.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is a 2010 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 36 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.8 and a MetaScore of 37.
