Road is a 2002 Indian thriller movie directed by Rajat Mukherjee. The film follows the lives of three youthful individuals, Arvind (Vivek Oberoi), his girlfriend, Lakshmi (Antara Mali), and a criminal and hitman, Babu (Manoj Bajpayee). The story is set in Mumbai and predominantly shot on actual locations in and around Mumbai. Arvind is a young man who dreams of becoming a famous musician. When he goes to Mumbai to chase his dreams, he meets Lakshmi, a prostitute, who helps him to find a place to stay. But their world is soon turned upside down when they witness a murder in their apartment complex.

Babu is a cold-hearted killer who is hired by a wealthy businessman to eliminate a witness. Babu is the one who carries out the murder in the apartment complex, and he mistakenly leaves behind his cell phone at the crime scene. When he realizes his mistake, he comes back to retrieve his phone, but he finds out that Arvind and Lakshmi have it.

Babu then sets out on a mission to retrieve his phone from Arvind and Lakshmi. But as he tries to bully and intimidate them into giving up the phone, Arvind and Lakshmi are forced to take a journey along with Babu, not just through Mumbai's dark alleys but within themselves too.

As the movie progresses, Road takes you on an intense ride through the streets of Mumbai, where the three characters come across several challenges and face life-threatening situations. The film has many action sequences, chase scenes, and a few tense moments, which keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

The film is also quite reflective, and it delves into the lives and perspectives of each of the characters. It explores themes like identity, morality, and survival. The journey forces them to confront some harsh truths about themselves and their society, which in turn changes them in their own way.

The performances of the three leads are worth mentioning here. Manoj Bajpayee brings a raw, visceral energy to the screen with his performance as Babu, the cold-blooded killer. He is menacing, brutal, and yet manages to convey a sense of vulnerability and hidden sadness in his eyes.

Vivek Oberoi's performance as the struggling musician, Arvind, is quite understated and genuine. He manages to convey the frustration and desperation of a man trying to make it big in the music industry.

Antara Mali, in turn, gives an excellent performance as Lakshmi, a prostitute with a heart of gold. She is no damsel in distress, but a fighter who is trying to survive in a world that has not been kind to her.

The music, composed by Sandesh Shandilya, is another highlight of the film. The soundtrack has a mix of different genres, including rock, pop, and Indian classical music. The songs, such as "Junoon" and "Kyun" have a haunting quality to them and stay with you long after the movie ends.

Overall, Road is a well-crafted thriller that takes you on an intense journey through Mumbai's underbelly. The film's performances, music and storyline are all commendable, and it's definitely worth a watch.

Road is a 2002 thriller with a runtime of 2 hours and 14 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7.
