Sangaree is a captivating and romantic movie which tells the story of Dr. Carlos Morales, played by Fernando Lamas, a man who fled his native Cuba after being wrongly imprisoned for treason. He begins a new life in Charleston, South Carolina, where he becomes a successful doctor and falls in love with a beautiful socialite, Nancy Vallon, portrayed by Arlene Dahl. However, their romance causes tensions in the social circle of Charleston, and they face multiple obstacles along the way.

Dr. Morales is determined to clear his name and return to his beloved homeland, but in the meantime, he becomes embroiled in a medical emergency when a young boy falls seriously ill. Despite his best efforts, the boy dies, leaving Dr. Morales feeling helpless and frustrated. His grief is compounded by the fact that the boy's wealthy father, Lonnie Lord, played by Francis L. Sullivan, blames him for the tragedy and threatens to ruin his reputation.

Nancy, who is engaged to Lonnie, pleads with him to give Dr. Morales a chance to redeem himself, and he agrees on the condition that he perform a risky and complicated operation on a slave owner's daughter, Augusta, played by Patricia Medina. To make matters worse, Augusta's suitor, Douglas, portrayed by John Sutton, is jealous of Dr. Morales and tries to sabotage the operation, leading to a dramatic and heart-pounding climax.

The movie, which is set on the eve of the American Civil War, is a beautiful and poignant portrayal of love, honor, and sacrifice. It highlights the struggles of those who are caught between two worlds and the difficulty of finding acceptance and belonging in a society that is deeply divided.

The main cast of Sangaree delivers outstanding performances, particularly Fernando Lamas, who convincingly portrays a man torn between his loyalty to his country and his love for Nancy. His sincerity and charisma light up the screen and make him an incredibly likable and sympathetic protagonist. Likewise, Arlene Dahl is stunning as Nancy, a refined and gracious Southern belle who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in.

The film's cinematography is also worth noting, as it beautifully captures the elegance and grandeur of Charleston's antebellum architecture and picturesque countryside. The lush and romantic score by Walter Scharf is a fitting accompaniment to the sweeping landscapes and emotional scenes.

Overall, Sangaree is a classic and timeless movie that will capture the hearts of viewers with its captivating story, beautiful visuals, and outstanding performances. It is a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit, and a reminder that even in the darkest of times, hope and courage can prevail.
