Satyakam is a 1969 Bollywood drama film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. It features an ensemble cast of Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore among others. The film is based on a novel by Narayan Sanyal and revolves around the theme of honesty and integrity. The story of the film revolves around Satyapriya Acharya (Dharmendra) and his struggles to uphold his values and principles in a society that is neither grateful nor just. Although born in a wealthy and influential family, Satyapriya chooses to pursue a degree in engineering instead of joining his father's business. He meets Ranjana (Sharmila Tagore), his childhood friend and love interest, during his college days and the two get married soon after.

Satyapriya's ideals, however, are put to the test when he is unable to find a job that matches his expectations. He refuses to compromise and accepts a menial job at a construction site, much to the disappointment of his father and wife. His honesty and sincerity soon make him a respected figure within the workers' community and he is appointed as their leader.

Satyapriya's real challenge arrives when he is diagnosed with a terminal illness and is forced to confront his mortality. He decides to reveal the truth to his wife, but she is unable to handle it and leaves him. Satyapriya's father, who had disowned him earlier, finally reconciles with him and becomes his confidant. Satyapriya's search for a successor to his position as the workers' leader is the turning point of the film and leads to a heart-wrenching climax.

The film's themes of social justice, morality and integrity are heightened by an outstanding ensemble cast. Dharmendra's portrayal of Satyapriya is raw and honest, while Ashok Kumar as his wise and supportive father is exceptional. Sharmila Tagore's role as Ranjana is complex and nuanced, highlighting the societal expectations imposed on women during the 1960s.

The film's classic soundtrack, composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and penned by Anand Bakshi, is another highlight of the film. Songs like "Zindagi Ke Safar Mein" and "Aaj Ki Raat Koi Aane Ko Hai" remain popular to this day.

Overall, Satyakam is a timeless masterpiece that continues to resonate with audiences. Its portrayal of the human condition and its uncompromising approach to truth and morality makes it a must-watch for lovers of Indian cinema.
