Scarecrows is a 1988 horror movie with an earthy, rustic feel to it. The film is the directorial debut of William Wesley and was written by himself along with Richard Jefferies and Larry Stamper. The movie is incredibly underrated and has become something of a cult classic over the years. The basic premise of the movie revolves around a group of criminals who hijack a plane after looting over $3 million from a wealthy businessman. They then proceed to parachute themselves down to a deserted cornfield and decide to lie low until they can rendezvous with their getaway pilot.

However, things do not go as planned, and things start to get creepy as they quickly realize that they are not alone in the cornfield. The cornfield is haunted by the vengeful spirits of the previous owners, who were killed by the ruthless landowner and were buried underneath the field in the form of scarecrows.

As soon as the sun goes down, the scarecrows start to come alive, and the criminals soon find themselves in a fight for their lives. The movie gets terrifying as the scarecrows come to life and begin to hunt down and kill the hijackers one by one.

The cinematography and the score of the movie do an excellent job of creating an atmosphere of tension and despair. The field of corn becomes an almost suffocating presence, and the haunting whispers of the scarecrows provide the perfect counterpoint to the silence of the cornfield.

The movie boasts a relatively small but tight-knit cast that includes Ted Vernon, Michael David Simms, Richard Vidan, Kristina Sanborn, Victoria Christian, and David Campbell. The actors all do a fantastic job of bringing their characters to life and helping immerse the audience in the horrors that unfold.

Some of the standout performances include Vernon, who plays Bert, the leader of the gang. He is ruthless, cunning, and has no qualms about killing anyone who gets in his way. Simms plays Jack, the mechanic and voice of reason of the group. Vidan plays the hapless and naive Tad, who finds himself horribly out of his depth when things start to go south.

Overall, Scarecrows is a well-executed and thematically rich horror movie that deserves far more recognition than it currently receives. The movie's slow-burning suspense and creepy atmosphere make it a must-watch for any horror fan, and the twist at the end is sure to leave you questioning who the real villains are.

Scarecrows is a 1988 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 23 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.3.
